Sea buckthorn (Seaberry) is a remarkable plant with significant ecological and health benefits. Ecologically, it combats desertification and soil erosion with its extensive root system, stabilizing land and preventing degradation. It also enriches soil fertility, creating a conducive environment for other plant species to thrive, thus enhancing biodiversity.

Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.), also known as seaberry, is a resilient shrub species belonging to the Elaeagnaceae family. It is widely distributed across temperate and subarctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including Asia, Europe, and North America. Thriving in diverse soil conditions, from sandy to rocky terrain, seabuckthorn is particularly valued for its ecological benefits, such as soil stabilization and nitrogen fixation.

China is a major producer of sea buckthorn, with significant cultivation also occurring in countries like Russia, Canada, and several European nations. The plant is revered in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda for its medicinal properties. In TCM, it is known as Shājí and is used to nourish the lungs, improve digestion, promote blood circulation, and support skin healing. Similarly, in Ayurveda, it is recognized as a Rasayana herb, aiding in digestive health, skin rejuvenation, heart health, and energy enhancement.

Modern pharmacological research has confirmed seabuckthorn’s rich nutritional profile, which includes high levels of vitamin C, vitamin E, omega-3, 6, 7, and 9 fatty acids, and powerful flavonoids. Studies have shown it to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects, along with potential benefits for skin protection, cholesterol reduction, and immune support.

The juice derived from sea buckthorn berries is particularly nutritious, offering a natural beverage rich in vitamins and bioactive compounds that contribute to overall health and wellness.
